Citing public safety and environmental concerns, the US Forest Service has closed a section of California’s Plumas National Forest after hundreds of modern-day hippies began gathering there in an annual tradition.The Rainbow Family hippie group have gathered annually since 1972, according to the Los Angeles Times, drawing thousands of attendees.Those defying the ban this year could face $5,000 fines or jail time, the forest service said.Footage taken by Alekz Londos on Monday, July 1, shows vehicles parked in the forest and law enforcement present. It also shows attendees of the gathering at what Londos described as "the new location that they moved to after the rangers made them relocate.
