Police moved in to separate protest groups on the campus of University of California, Los Angeles, after a group of pro-Israel counter-protesters violently attacked a pro-Palestinian encampment led by students in the early hours of Wednesday, May 1.Earlier, pro-Israel demonstrators had
attempted to break down barricades made of plywood and metal guardrails and physically attacked protesters at the encampment.Local media
reported that firecrackers and fireworks were also launched towards the encampment, exploding near groups of tents.The LA Times reporter Teresa Watanabe
said that the counter-protesters were pro-Israel. Some screamed “Second Nakba,” according to Watanabe. Others in her video could he heard saying, “We’re fighting back.”The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass,
