Crews and local volunteers began cleanup efforts at a hotel in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Monday, August 5, after a violent anti-immigrant protesters attacked and damaged the building on Sunday.The hotel, a Holiday Inn Express, was housing asylum seekers at the time of the attack, according to South Yorkshire Police.Police described an incident where a wheelie bin was pushed up against the hotel and set on fire, with the clear intent to cause serious harm to those inside.The statement read, “It was known there were people residing and working in the hotel, but the mindless individuals responsible had absolutely no regard for their safety.”Six people had been arrested by Monday morning, police said. 12 officers were injured during the protest, they added.Footage from journalist Milo Chandler shows police trying to guard the hotel as crowds of protesters surround it.
