Roads Closed After 'Unprecedented' Snowfall in Cottonwood Canyons

Crews worked to clear roadways and undertake avalanche mitigation in the Cottonwood Canyons in Utah in the early hours of Thursday, April 6, amid record-breaking snowfall.This video released by the Utah Department of Transport (UDOT) Cottonwood Canyons shows a crew working along a snow-lined roadway.The department said late on Tuesday that State Route 190 was closed due to slide-offs and increasing avalanche hazard and some parts were still closed by Thursday for avalanche mitigation by helicopter.State Route 210 had also been closed due to the snowfall and remained closed by Thursday morning. The department said on Wednesday, “This amount of snow is unprecedented.”The National Weather Service said by Wednesday, Salt Lake City International Airport had received the most snow in April since 1984.
