A thunderstorm brought heavy rains and winds to Colombia’s Atlantico region on Monday, September 16, knocking down trees and power lines and damaging buildings in the city of Barranquilla.Footage filmed by X user @lujupri shows what appears to be the result of an explosion or a fire in the distance, with darkened houses in the foreground.Local media reported that “an explosion was recorded amid the damage caused by the strong winds.”Media reports mentioned electrical transformers exploding during the thunderstorm.The Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla said that 12 people were taken to the hospital to receive emergency treatment, but none of them were in serious conditions.“Barranquilla residents, I inform you that, thank God, after the heavy rains and gusts of wind on Monday night, there were no human losses,” Barranquilla mayor Alejandro Char wrote on X on Tuesday.The governor of Atlantico, Eduardo Verano de la Rosa, said that 9 municipalities in the region had been affected by the severe weather.
