Sirens sounded into the early hours of Tuesday, May 23, in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, following clashes in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast on Monday.Footage by journalist Jay Beecher captured the howl of the sirens from his apartment in central Kyiv on Monday night. The Kyiv Regional Military Administration gave the all clear shortly before dawn.Ukraine’s military intelligence service said anti-Kremlin Russian militants were carrying out an operation in Russia’s Belgorod to “create a security zone,” Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne reported.Citing Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Russian state news agency TASS reported President Vladimir Putin was aware of “an attempt by Ukrainian saboteurs” to infiltrate Belgorod.
