The Jacksonville Florida Sherrif’s Office released bodycam footage and “important context” on November 5, following violent interactions between deputies and fans at a college football game at Everbank Stadium on Sunday, November 2.Two different incidents led to violent altercations during a football game opposing the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, footage shows. In a first incident, filmed by a spectator and reshared by the police department, the suspect can be seen attempting to grab Officer ED Kelly’s gun.Bodycam footage reveals the interaction that led to the escalation. In the video, the suspect, accused of “trespassing,” uses racial slurs aimed at Kelly and tells Officer DJ Bowers he was “either going to kill a cop or not leave.” As the man resists arrest, the officers tase him and put him in handcuffs. The second incident, which went viral on social media, involved Officers J Anthony, JS Beasley and A Catino, who were called to the stands by a venue staff member due to spectactors’ “aggressive behavior toward other fans,” according to the sheriff’s office.Bodycam footage shows three men refusing to leave the stadium, before “becoming combative with officers,” as described by the sheriff’s office, leading officers to use force and stun guns before arresting them.“While the use of force can appear intense, our investigation determined that the officers in both incidents acted within policy to protect themselves and nearby fans,” the sheriff’s office said.
