Severe Thunderstorms Bring Threat of 'Excessive Rainfall' to Southeastern US

Satellite imagery showed thunderstorms move across the southeastern US on Thursday, May 9.Thick clouds and flashes of lightning can be seen in the imagery posted by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere.The National Weather Service (NWS) issued warnings of flash flooding in northern and central Alabama, and Georgia extending into western South Carolina.The CIRA said there were “threats of severe weather and excessive rainfall” from the Southern Plains to the southeast on Thursday.The NWS reported overnight rainfall totals ranging from 3 to 7 inches.
