The US military has criticized a maneuver by a Russian aircraft off the coast of Alaska on September 23 as “unsafe” and “unprofessional”.The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said that while a US Air Force F-16 jet was conducting a routine intercept of a Russian aircraft in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), a Russian Tu-95 performed a dangerous maneuver near the US aircraft.Video shows the Tu-95 passing very close to the F-16.US Air Force Gen Gregory Guillot said the conduct of the Russian fighter jet was “unsafe, unprofessional, and endangered all - not what you’d see in a professional air force.”NORAD said on September 23 that four Russian military aircraft had been detected in the Alaska ADIZ, but that they remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace.Russian activity in the Alaska ADIZ “occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat,” NORAD said.
