Proving it’s never too late to start a family, the world’s oldest known albatross, a bird called Wisdom, has laid a new egg at the ripe old age of 74, the US Fish and Wildlife Service said.Footage and images from the service show Wisdom and her new partner with the egg.The service said that like other Laysan albatrosses, Wisdom returns to the same nesting site in Hawaii each year to reunite with her mate and lay one egg, if she can. Her partner over several decades, Akeakamai, has not been seen for several years, so Wisdom was seen to “begin courtship dances with other males.”A supervisory wildlife biologist at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge said he was “optimistic” that Wisdom’s egg would hatch. He said that Wisdom has produced 50-60 eggs, and as many as 30 chicks that fledged in her lifetime. Credit: US Fish and Wildlife Service via Storyful
