Hundreds of thousands of people were without power across Georgia on Friday morning, September 27, after Hurricane Helene caused damage to power lines and poles while barreling across the state, officials said.Footage from Bryan Tolar shows sparks leaping from downed power lines on St Simons Island in Glynn County late Thursday night.According to electricity supplier Georgia Power, at least 55,000 customers in Glynn County were without power as of 10:30 am Friday morning.Strong winds hitting St Simons Island earlier on Thursday evening had prompted tornado warnings from the National Weather Service.Glynn County authorities on Friday morning urged people to stay off the roads while utility crews cleared debris.
