An ancient Roman basilica discovered beneath a commercial office building in central London has been
described by the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) as “one of the most historically significant pieces of Roman history uncovered” in the city.Footage released by MOLA shows excavation underway at the site on Gracechurch Street in the heart of the British capital in July of 2024.“It’s like discovering the Speaker’s Chair and chamber of the House of Commons, 2,000 years into the future,” MOLA Director of Development Sophie Jackson said.“The levels of preservation of the basilica have far exceeded our expectations, and we have possibly the most important part of the building,” she said.
