Man Charged Over Fire at Melbourne Racecourse

A man has been arrested and charged in relation to a fire that was started in a stand at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse on the morning of January 7.Police said they were investigating links between three grass fires and the grandstand fire seen in the video here.They said a 51-year-old man was facing four counts of arson, among other charges. “The charges follow an alleged series of fires in Caulfield and Mordialloc … including one in the grandstand of Caulfield Racecourse,” they said.According to local news reports, significant damage was caused to the heritage-listed Norman Robinson grandstand and the 1876 Bar, but firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to other stands.
