At least 8 people, including children, are dead after flooding and mudslides in the mountainous regions of south-western Kyrgyzstan, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported on June 30, citing authorities.A state of emergency was declared in Nookat district, after the area was hit by heavy rainfall, forecast to persist until July 2.A popular vacation spot, Abshir Ata, was badly impacted, local outlet Turmush reported.More than 1,300 holiday-makers were evacuated from the area, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.Footage captured by (RFE/RL) on June 29 shows emergency response workers using footbridges to evacuate people through a flooded canyon, while battling against raging, waist-high flood waters.
