Brittney Griner made a surprise appearance at a women’s empowerment luncheon in New York City on Thursday, April 13, following the announcement of her upcoming book about her nearly 10-month detainment in Russia.According to local news reports, Griner has vowed to “fight to bring home every American detained overseas.”The WNBA athlete spoke of efforts to get her released last December.“Everyone in this room that came together, that sent up every prayer, it reached me while I was there,” Griner said, as reported in local news.The event was held as part of the Rev Al Sharpton’s National Action Network convention at the Sheraton Hotel in New York.Footage from Jeff Coltin shows Griner being applauded at the event.
