Crews Work to Contain Southwest Florida Fire That Destroyed Two Homes

A 300-acre brush fire that destroyed at least two homes and led to evacuations in Florida’s Collier County was 90 percent contained on Monday, March 6, fire officials said.Air crews dropped hundreds of gallons of water on the blaze, which also destroyed dozens of sheds, multiple vehicles, and several boats and Jet Skis, according to the North Collier Fire Rescue District.The fire started after power lines came into contact with a tree, according to the Florida Forest Service, but high winds likely helped it spread.
