NATO Celebrates Entry of Finland to Organization on 74th Anniversary

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg celebrated Finland’s entry into the organisation in Brussels, Belgium, on Tuesday, April 4.Speaking to reporters, Stoltenberg said: “Today is an historic day, because in a few hours we will welcome Finland as the 31st member of our alliance. This will make Finland safer and NATO stronger. And on this very day, in 1949, the Washington Treaty, NATO’s founding treaty, was signed in Washington and it’s hard to imagine any better way of celebrating our anniversary than to have Finland becoming a full member of the alliance.”Allied foreign ministers will start a two-day meeting in Brussels today to discuss international security topics including Russia’s war against Ukraine, and work on developing a multi-year programme of support.
