'Red Tide' Kills Fish on Florida's Southwest Coast

A toxic red tide algae bloom killed fish and caused irritation in residents along the southwest coast of Florida earlier this month, according to local news reports.The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FFWCC) reported high concentrations of the Karenia brevis organism across multiple southwestern Florida counties between March 2 and March 9. The FFWCC also received dozens of fish kill reports and several reports of respiratory irritation in beaches.The footage, released directly to Storyful by the Manatee County government, shows cleanup efforts along some of the affected beaches.
