Satellite Captures Typhoon Khanun Over East China Sea

Satellite imagery showed a powerful and deadly typhoon churn across the East China Sea overnight August 1 to August 2.Residents in Okinawa, Japan, were warned to be on high alert for “storms, high tides, and landslides” for three days, as Typhoon Khanun lashed the country’s southernmost islands on Wednesday.Japan’s meteorological agency said the storm packed maximum sustained wind speeds of over 100 mph, and warned its impacts could be “prolonged.”According to Japanese broadcaster NHK, at least one person died after a garage collapsed due to strong winds, 41 people were injured, and more than 200,000 people were without power.The typhoon was forecast to weaken as it entered the sea and away from the Okinawa area, but "likely to make a sharp turn to track northeastward early Friday, according to reports.
