Syria's Assad Lands in Moscow for Putin Talks

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport on Tuesday, March 14, ahead of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, according to Syrian and Russian government officials.Footage from the state-controlled Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) shows Assad being welcomed to Russia by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Bogdanov, who serves as Putin’s special envoy in the Middle East; Russia’s ambassador in Damascus, Alexander Yefimov; and Syria’s ambassador in Moscow, Dr Bashar al-Jafari, according to a press release from the Syrian president’s office.The Kremlin’s press service said Putin and Assad were going to discuss “further developing Russian-Syrian political, trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation and prospects for the comprehensive settlement of the situation in Syria and around it.”Assad last visited Moscow in September, 2021.
