Hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses were without power, and forecasters were warning of danger to life as Storm Eowyn battered Ireland on January 24.Footage recorded by Matt Hawkins, aquarium manager at the Galway Atlantaquaria, shows the scene on the west coast of Ireland as the storm raged.The footage was posted to X with the caption: “You know it’s bad when a large wooden bench is seen ‘walking’ down the prom!”A status red warning was in place for all of the island of Ireland.The storm was predicted to be the worst to hit Ireland since Hurricane Debbie in 1961.
