A pro-Israeli Jewish group at Columbia University in New York City held a ceremony on October 7 to memorialize the victims of the Hamas-led attack on Israel one year earlier.More than 1,200 men, women, and children were killed in the assault and another 250 people were taken into Gaza as hostages, according to figures from the United Nations.The group leading the ceremony, Columbia Faculty and Staff Supporting Israel, said they “gathered as a community to remember and mourn the tragic and devastating losses that we suffered as a nation on October 7.”The event took place as pro-Palestinian demonstrators began gathering on campus nearby.This video from Gil Zussman, a professor of engineering at the university, shows several dozen participants holding Israeli flags, US flags, and banners calling for the return of hostages being held by Hamas, while a woman delivers a statement in Hebrew.
