'Ice Volcanoes' Erupt on Shores of Lake Michigan

“Ice volcanoes” were spotted on the shores of Lake Michigan on Monday, January 6, as frigid temperatures and snow moved through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).Nathan Voytovick, of Nate’s Dronography, captured this video in St Joseph, Michigan. The footage features ice boulders, which form when ice sheets break off around a body of water and are rounded by waves.The video also includes ice volcanoes, which form when waves crash through shelves of ice that form on the edge of a lake or other body of water.The NWS forecast light snow and freezing temperatures for southwest Michigan through Wednesday.
