Protests at Columbia University After Pro-Palestinian Groups Suspended

A crowd gathered outside Columbia University on November 15 to protest the barring of two Pro-Palestinian groups from campus. The video shows protesters waving Palestinian flags and placards, and chanting “The more they try to silence us the louder we will be.”The action came as two student groups, Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), were suspended by university administrators. In a written statement, Gerald Rosberg, the university’s vice president, said the two groups were suspended after they “repeatedly violated University policies related to holding campus events, culminating in an unauthorized event…that proceeded despite warnings and included threatening rhetoric and intimidation.”Writing on Instagram, the two groups accused the university’s administrators of “selective censorship”.The Columbia Spectator reported that around 100 faculty and graduate workers also rallied on Wednesday, gathering on campus and calling for the suspension of the two groups to be overturned.
