Satellite imagery captured the destruction left by Cyclone Chido on the French island of Mayotte on Monday, December 16.According to Maxar, catastrophic damage is seen across Mamoudzou, Mayotte’s largest city. Signifiant damage is also seen to communities along the eastern coast of the island, and on the nearby island of Pamandzi, according to Maxar imagery.Speaking on local television, Mayotte Prefect Francois-Xavier Bieuville said he feared the death toll would reach in the hundreds or “even a few thousand.”Mayotte, a department and region of France, is located in the southeastern Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa.
