Satellite imagery shows heavy rain accompanying the devastating storm that killed more than 100 people in the United States from September 24 to September 28.Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane. The storm continued northward, dropping as much as 30 inches of rain over parts of western North Carolina, said Gov Roy Cooper.As of Monday afternoon, 116 people were confirmed to have died as a result of the storm, with hundreds more still missing.Satellite imagery from the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) shows rainfall that “primed the stage” for flooding when Helene arrived, as well as the storm’s passage through the region.
