Survivors Say 41 Dead in Sinking of Migrant Boat in Mediterranean

Forty-one people are believed to have died after a boat carrying migrants who left from Tunisia capsized, according to four survivors who were rescued and brought to land on Wednesday, August 9, according to the Italian Red Cross.The Red Cross said that the survivors told them the boat had left the Tunisian port of Sfax on August 3, with 45 people aboard.The four survivors, three men and a woman, said all on the boat ended up in the sea. Only 15 were wearing life jackets, RAI reported. Three children were among the 41 who died.The Red Cross said that the four survivors used inner tubes to reach another boat. Their general health was considered good and they continued to be assessed, the organization said.Video taken by a monitoring aircraft of the humanitarian rescue group Sea-Watch.org shows the four survivors boarding a commercial tanker, the Rimona.
