CCTV captured the dramatic moment an SUV narrowly avoided a woman when it crashes into the porch of a home, striking a gas meter, in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday, January 4.Doorbell camera footage captured by resident Katie Abraham shows an SUV with its headlights off speed towards and strike her porch on Vedra Drive as she sat on it while speaking on her cell phone.Speaking to Storyful, Abraham said she was on her porch “when a burgundy Nissan Armada came down my street at very high speeds directly towards me. The SUV then crashed into my house narrowly missing me by mere inches.”Forest Acres Police Department said officers responded to a dispute on Atascadero Drive in Columbia at 10.50 pm on Saturday. When officers arrived, they determined the group, including juveniles, were attending a party at a rental property.While officers questioned the renter of the property, they observed a vehicle leave the backyard of the residence and “nearly strike people standing outside while driving off.”Police said officers attempted to follow the vehicle and observed its headlights being turned off as it turned onto Ponte Vedra Road. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the SUV as the vehicle fled and rounded a corner.“The driver of the SUV, with its headlights still off, lost control of the vehicle while taking a sharp turn on Ponte Vedra and crashed into a the front of the home. A woman who was sitting on the porch […] was thankfully not injured. The occupants inside the home were also not injured,” police said.Officers said the vehicle struck the home’s gas meter, causing a “hazardous” leak that sent natural gas into air and into the house. Officers evacuated nearby homes and called Columbia Fire Department, Dominion Energy and the (South Carolina Department of Transportation) SCDO for assistance.Speaking to WLTX, Forest Acres Public Information Officer Lynnsey Baker said that the incident was not the result of a pursuit but rather the SUV driver failing to yield for a traffic stop.
