Ukraine Swaps Soviet Symbol for Trident on Huge Kyiv Monument

Ukraine has replaced a Soviet hammer-and-sickle emblem with a Ukrainian trident on a 335-foot-tall statue in Kyiv.Footage published by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on August 6 shows workers waving the Ukrainian flag from atop the Motherland Monument, after a trident, the country’s coat of arms, is placed where a Soviet emblem was previously.According to Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne, finishing touches were due to be completed by August 23, when Ukraine marks its Day of the National Flag.
