Ksenia Karelina, a dual US-Russian citizen, was sentenced on August 15 to 12 years in prison by a court in Russia for donating around $50 to a charity organization based in New York that provides aid to Ukraine.Russia’s Federal Security Service said in February that Karelina had been arrested in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of treason.“As the court established, on February 24, 2022, Karelina, on her own initiative, transferred funds in the interests of one of the Ukrainian organizations, which were subsequently used to purchase tactical medicine, equipment, weapons and ammunition by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
