US Senators Patty Murray, Chuck Schumer, Amy Klobuchar, Chris Murphy, and Andy Kim held a press conference in Washington, DC, to discuss the Trump administration’s memo to freeze federal funding on Tuesday, January 28.Footage released by New Jersey Senator Andy Kim’s office shows Kim commenting on the federal funding freeze, which is set to take effect at 5pm EST on Tuesday.“The idea that this is going to cut off funding, put in jeopardy, and throw into chaos people with disabilities, seniors, people with healthcare needs is cruel,” Kim says. “But again, that’s the point. They don’t care about the collateral damage.”Senator Murray called the move “brazen and illegal,” and that the action “could have devastating consequences across the country for real people,” according to a statement from the US Senate Committee on Appropriations.The Trump administration said that the temporary freeze would affect federal grants and loans, but would not affect Social Security or Medicare benefits, CNN reported.
