At least 130 migrants were rescued by the Italian coast guard off the shores of Calabria on Sunday, February 2, amid particularly rough seas.According to a press release from the Italian coast guard, 74 of the migrants were men, 27 were women, and 29 were minors.The rescue took place around 90 nautical miles southeast of Isola di Capo Rizzuto, a town in the Crotone province.“The two patrol boats, after reaching the struggling vessel, proceeded - in a particularly complex operational scenario due to the weather conditions, with winds of approximately 30 knots and waves of up to 4 meters - to carry all the people on board, who were subsequently disembarked at the port of Crotone,” the Italian coast guard said.Italian news reports said that the vessel carrying the migrants had departed from Turkey on January 30, before ending up stuck in stormy seas on February 2.Most of the migrants were from Afghanistan and Iraq, according to news reports.
