7 Arrested in Spain for Taking Over €500,000 in ATM Cash Using Stolen Trucks

Seven people have been arrested by the Spanish Guardia Civil after using stolen trucks to rip ATMs from banks, stealing over half a million euros.According to the Ministry of Interior, police began investigating in February after identifying a pattern of robberies. The group had committed at least 19 heists at entities in Almeria, Alicante, Valencia, Tarragona, and Barcelona.The press release said that the group targeted warehouses or construction companies to steal boom trucks, which they used to uproot ATMs from banks in small towns. They then transported the ATMs to remote locations, using a generator and specialized tools to extract the cash.“Once they had obtained enough loot from various events, the main members of the group left our country for different European countries,” the ministry said. “After a period of inactivity they returned to Spain, giving rise to a new campaign of robberies.”A total of 19 crimes committed against bank entities have been solved, with an estimated theft of over half a million euros and seven people arrested, the ministry said.
