Dinosaur fossils have been discovered on an uninhabited island in Hong Kong for the first time, officials announced on Wednesday, October 23.The fossils, which were discovered on Port Island, date back to the Cretaceous period, about 66 million to 145 million years ago, the government of Hong Kong said.The government of Hong Kong said experts from mainland China were commissioned to conduct field investigations and study fossil specimens on the island.Port Island, which is part of a UNESCO Global Geopark, would be closed to the public until further notice while research was conducted, UNESCO said.
