A pod of dolphins off the coast of Southampton, New York, took an avid local nature watcher by surprise on May 22.Joanna Steidle, who recorded this drone footage “just 300 yards” from the coast of Little Plains Beach, said that in “seven years of documenting the seasonal marine life arrivals” in the area she’s “never” seen a pod this big “so early in the season.”According to the Department of Environmental Conservation for New York State, dolphin sightings most commonly occur in the warm summer months, “when the water is productive.” Credit: Joanna Steidle via Storyful
