An ice climber who had no ropes or phone with him was rescued by Forest Rangers at Buttermilk Falls, in New York, after falling and sustaining injuries on January 24, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) said.The man managed to descend to “a group of climbers who called for help,” the DEC said.The man, who sustained ankle and wrist injuries, was airlifted and transferred to an ambulance.Footage released by the DEC shows the rescue operation.In a 2019 guide, the climb at Buttermilk Falls is described as “an involved day that includes a challenging off-trail approach with bushwhacking, route finding, rope and risk management.” Credit: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation via Storyful
