At least one person was killed and 17 were injured by wildfires raging in west-central Portugal on Monday, September 16.Footage filmed by Lara Rodrigues in the Assilho neighborhood in the town of Albergaria shows flaming vegetation amid dark smoke.Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said a firefighter had died while battling the fire in Oliveira de Azemeis, near Albergaria.A further 17 people were injured by the wildfires, including four firefighters, after the blaze spread from Oliveira de Azemeis to Albergaria-a-Velh, local media reported.Almost 200 firefighters and 59 vehicles were assigned to the fire in Albergaria, officials said.The Aveiro region and seven other districts were placed under yellow alerts due to high temperatures by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere.
