Lion Cub Exploited on Social Media Rehomed to Wildlife Refuge After 2-Month Delay

An animal welfare organization finally was able to rehome a lion cub who was rescued from an exploitive situation, but then trapped in Lebanon for two months because of the war, the group said.The cub, named Sara, was brought to a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa.Animals Lebanon director Jason Mier said the organization rescued Sara back in September from Baalbek. The cub had been “abused and exploited” by being passed around as a prop in TikTok videos and was malnourished, according to the organization.Sara’s journey to South Africa began early on November 14 at a seaport in Lebanon’s Dbayeh district, where she was loaded onto a boat to Larnaca, Cyprus. She was then transported by plane to Cape Town, before she was driven to the animal sanctuary in Paarl, arriving on November 15, Mier said.Sara is “now safe” at the sanctuary, the organization said in a Facebook post, thanking their supporters.Footage from Animals Lebanon shows Sara during the various stages of her journey and exploring the sanctuary.
