The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) has released footage of the arrest of golf’s No1 player, Scottie Scheffler, outside Valhalla Golf Club on May 17.The LMPD said it was not aware of any footage that captured the initial interaction between Scheffler and police before the second round of the US PGA Championship. The department said the officer who arrested Scheffler, named as Detective Bryan Gillis, failed to activate his body-worn camera during the arrest and, as a result, “corrective action” has been taken against him.Scheffler was arrested on charges that he injured Gillis and disobeyed commands as he drove to the course. He was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer, all of which he denies. Scheffler’s arraignment is set for June 3.The arrest was filmed by ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington. The footage showed a handcuffed Scheffler being led away by police. Darlington said Scheffler was detained after “a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club.”Scheffler later said "he never intended to disregard any of the instructions”.
