A humpback whale that had gotten entangled in ropes off the Scottish Isle of Skye was freed after a complicated and “dangerous” rescue, the British Divers Marine Life Rescue said.Footage taken on January 31 and released by the organization shows a crew of rescuers reaching the salmon farm where the whale had gotten entangled in ropes, and working to release the animal.The British Divers Marine Life Rescue said that they received a report about the whale being entangled and unable to swim freely on January 30.According to the group, team members from around the UK traveled to Skye for the rescue. The group also said they had to record drone and underwater footage to create a plan that would free the whale safely.Rescuers arrived on site early on the following morning. “In a small boat, up close to a large, powerful, and likely stressed animal, the rescue was incredibly dangerous,” they said.The rescuers cut different sections of rope and freed the whale, which was described as “possibly exhausted and initially not knowing it was free.”After a short time, however, the animal started swimming freely, headed northwards.
