A young male bear eager to return to his spot beneath a home in South Lake Tahoe, California, ended up just scratching the exterior of the house and then leaving after being stopped in his tracks by a non-lethal electric bear mat.Footage captured by local bear expert Toogee Sielsch shows the bear approaching the house, spotting the mat, going around it, and then breaking off a bit of the exterior of the house.“I placed a non-lethal electric bear mat and this bear has experienced them before,” Sielsch told Storyful.“As seen, he didn’t want to have anything to do with that mat and ended up moving on after ripping some of the molding off the side of the house,” he added.The bear had been safely evicted from beneath the same home the day before, other footage captured by Sielsch showed.“This is the young male bear we evicted yesterday from this same crawlspace and he came back three different times last night and this morning,” Sielsch wrote on Instagram.“This property owner will soon fix this access, and in the meantime I’ve lent him an electric bear mat to deter that bear or any others,” he explained.
