Former President of France Nicolas Sarkozy arrived in court in Paris on Monday, January 6, to stand trial over accusations of illegal financing of an electoral campaign during the 2007 presidential election.Sarkozy is accused of “passive corruption, illegal financing of an electoral campaign, [and] criminal association and concealment of embezzlement of Libyan public funds,” according to Le Monde.The former president faces 10 years in prison and a fine of €375,000 if found guilty. He denies all charges against him.Sarkozy was previously convicted of charges of corruption and influence peddling, which resulted in him being handed a three-year prison sentence. Two of the years were suspended, and Sarkozy will serve the remaining year under house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet.He did not have to appear in court on Monday with an electronic bracelet however, as the sentence had not yet been implemented.This footage captured by Nicolas Mercier shows Sarkozy arriving in court.
