People headed for higher ground on December 17, after a damaging earthquake triggered what proved to be a short-lived tsunami warning in Port Vila, Vanuatu.The 7.3-magnitude
earthquake caused widespread damage and forced the closure of the
US embassy in Port Vila.The US Geological Survey (USGS)
said the earthquake struck 30 km (18 miles) west of Port Vila at a depth of 57 km.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
issued the tsunami warning, before
lifting it less than two hours later.Footage recorded by Tim Cutler shows damage done to the US embassy and people moving to higher ground “in case of tsunami,” he said.“Many of us so very lucky. Others not so. Horrible for so many families here,” Cutler said.US officials
