More than 2,000 people were killed in Afghanistan, after earthquakes struck the western province of Herat, government officials reported on October 8.A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck on Saturday, October 7, followed by a 5.9 magnitude, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).Video footage posted to X by the Ministry of National Defense Afghanistan shows crews flying above the damage.In a statement, the ministry expressed its condolences for those killed and said their teams had been in the area since the incident and would provide ongoing support.
