Italian crews removed the carcass of a whale measuring 13 meters (42 feet), which was discovered underneath a pier off the coast of northeast Italy on Friday, August 30.Footage posted to Facebook by Miramare Marine Protected Area (Miramare
MPA) shows an underwater view of the carcass on Friday morning.According to the post, the mammal was discovered by a diver under the piers of Porto San Rocco in Muggia, located in Trieste, and the whale, believed to be a fin whale, appeared to have been dead for “no more than 7 days.”“The news fills us with sadness and bitterness especially because the fin whale has not been seen in the gulf for several years,” the post read.Writing on X, Italy’s fire and rescue service Vigili del Fuoco
