“Numerous structures” were destroyed or damaged in Wrightwood, California, on Tuesday, September 10, fire officials said, as the Bridge fire continued to expand and threaten various communities in both Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. This footage, filmed by Eugene Lewis in Wrightwood, shows the sky darkening and becoming red on Tuesday afternoon.“We knew the fire was close but hadn’t received an evacuation warning. The skies turned dark, then orange, then red. I knew it was time to go at that point,” Lewis said.“I’ve never seen anything like it. It seemed like a scene from the apocalypse. As incredible as the video is, it really doesn’t do it justice,” he added. In a statement issued Wednesday morning, officials said the Bridge fire “continued to exhibit extreme fire behavior as it increased over 13,000 acres mainly on the north and east flanks,” and that “the top priority for firefighters remained in structure protection and defense within the communities of Wrightwood, Pinon Hills, and Mount Baldy.”The fire began burning in wilderness northeast of Glendora on Sunday before moving northward toward populated areas. By Wednesday morning, it had grown to 47,904 acres and remained zero percent contained, officials said.Several areas remained under mandatory evacuation warnings, including parts of Mount Baldy, the East Fork area, and Pinon Hills, along with the entire town of Wrightwood.
