Gale-force winds on the shore of Lake Michigan on November 12 carved a series of small sand sculptures that looked more like something in the Utah desert than what one would find in St Joseph, Michigan.Video filmed by Nathan Voytovick of Nate’s Dronography shows the sand formations against the backdrop of the St Joseph North Pier Inner Lighthouse on Tuesday morning.“The Great Lakes phenomenon is back this morning! Beautiful sand sculptures carved out by intense gale force winds and drying sand!” Voytovick told Storyful, adding that winds of 40 mph were registered overnight in St Joseph. The phenomenon is caused by high winds that shape wet sand with cold, dry air, creating the smooth otherworldly formations.
