Dozens of mountaineers narrowly escaped with their lives while climbing the Dukono volcano on the Indonesian island of Halmahera over the weekend. The groups had just reached the crater when a massive cloud of ash shot 8,000ft into the air. The climbers, who had ignored several warnings and were not permitted to be on the active volcano, quickly began scrambling down the mountain slopes to escape. The surreal encounter was captured by a drone pilot.
