Federal agencies announced on December 18 the northern giant hornet, also known as the 'murder hornet', has been eradicated from the US. They are capable of killing a non-allergic person with multiple stings, can spit their venom and prey on bees. The hornets were first seen in North America in August 2019 and were found in Washington in September of that year.
