Los Angeles police fired less-than-lethal projectiles at close range as they dispersed demonstrators and press attending the “Day Without Immigrants” protests on Monday night, February 3.This footage from Anthony Cabassa shows officers in tactical gear pushing back protesters and members of the press in downtown Los Angeles. One protester can be heard yelling, “Viva Mexico!” while waving a Mexican flag.Local media reported that bottles were thrown at LAPD officers in the area.At least one officer is seen pointing a rubber-bullet launcher directly at protesters, within a few feet of them, at 00:32 and 01:15.Since 2021, the LAPD has been prohibited from aiming crowd-control weapons at the “upper bodies of demonstrators at close range within five feet.” After a federal court ruling, LAPD leadership clarified their officers could not target the head, neck, eyes, face, or spine of a person with a 40mm launcher.
